The Artificial Coexisting With the Natural - ryaw

While cyber punk is a common theme that has garnered a lot of fans, in reality, it is a dystopian world that nobody would want to live in. Experimental Japanese brand ryaw creates clothing and objects as a counter-culture to cyberpunk; solar punk.

Out of the many "-punk" subcultures to exist, solar punk is a future where the natural and the artificial coexist in peace. ryaw designer MANAMU [@chrilililililil] fears our world is headed to a cyber punk future, and designs & creates clothing as a means to change that path.

"-punk" subcultures always share one concept: they are always a form of expressing anger towards a certain system. Although solar punk sounds like a bright future, it portrays the silent anger towards the society we live in today. The 22SS collection is a physical embodiment of MANAMU's thoughts around solar punk, with many items consisting of small details revolving around the theme. MANAMU translates his ideas directly into his designs. The Leaf Jacket is a prime example, with quick access pockets and 4-way stretch fabric for a user to unleash their stress when wearing. Another key item from ryaw is the protection series. With the concept of Natural x Artificial, the protection bracelet consists of natural stones covered in surgical insulated tubing. The tubing aims to protect the effects that the different stones carry. The protection wallet chains follow the same idea, with stones that are treated at a plant in the mountains of Nagano prefecture. Visuals for the protection series are by yuse [@yuse_archive].

ryaw also aims to get rid of the separation of humans. In the summer of 2021, ryaw held a project titled "CYANON", where people would gather and create their own unique pieces. Each participant would print a graphic on a T-shirt using solar-reactant ink. ryaw offers a place for people to gather & come together through clothing.

ryaw understands they must create sustainably with responsibility. The producers, the wearers, the earth, everything is kept in mind, as ryaw aims to find a coexistance for all entities.
