Through the Lens of udai, One of Tokyo's Realest Creatives

Tokyo is a melting pot of some of the most creative designers, directors, photographers, artists, you name it.

But there is a new wave of young creatives here, who don't just have a single job title. udai is one of them.

It's hard to define what udai is in short. He's one of the best directors/filmmakers out there, he shoots photos like no one else, he's a member of the creative team Youth Quake, he's a collage artist, he's got some of the sickest tats, he occasionally models, he's got a badass ride, and is just a really kind person.

udai has directed & shot for many projects, even with us at sabukaru. From BoTT x Converse Skateboarding to projects with VERDY, shooting yurufuwagang to photo & art exhibitions, his list of past works and projects is diverse and unmatched.

One of our favorite projects with udai was sabukaru for Baracuta, where we teamed up with udai to shoot Taro Imai, styled by udai’s fellow Youth Quake members & Car Service director Kei Hashimoto. This shoot was one of Taro’s last shoots in Tokyo before heading off to London, and the synergy between 3 good friends was something you can’t artificially put together.

udai is also a graduate of the Bunka Fashion College, and met many of his Youth Quake & creative friends all around the same time. Today, they lead the Tokyo youth scene, whether it be brands, DJs, artists, crews, cars, and everything else, udai & his friends are opening new possibilities for younger generations.
