Chinpoukan - Japan's Penis Museum

Deep in the rural Ikaho area of the Gunma prefecture, lies Japan's "Chinpoukan", a penis museum. The name of the museum comes from "Chinpou" meaning hidden treasure, and "Kan", meaning building or hall. However, the general meaning of "Chinpo" in Japanese is penis, adding a playful double meaning to the name. Chinpoukan is also known to be a good luck destination for couples who want to have children.

Opening in 1978, Chinpoukan has long been one of Japan's top & longest lasting "Hihoukan"s, Japan's unique sex-themed parks & museums. With over 3,500 sexual items on display, it comes to no surprise that children below high school are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

When you arrive at Chinpoukan, you will first see a giant rock with "Chinpoukan" written on it, next to another huge rock resembling a penis, titled the "couple's rock". Once in the museum, you will be greeted by the "Kancho" [manager] of Chinpoukan, who calls herself the "Mancho" [another great word play, manko meaning vagina in Japanese], named "Chinko" [literally meaning penis]. She has been giving tours and explanations of Chinpoukan for decades, and is very well-known to be an extremely sexual, funny, and nice lady.

While giving explanations of the items on display and the museum, she will also crack jokes about how all the men listening have small penises, or maybe about how they all have erectile disfunction. She is also known to grab your crotch, and the official website literally states "Be careful of your crotch during the tour".

With all jokes aside, Japan's birthrate has been seriously declining over the past years, and is seen as one of the most critical issues of the country. Due to Japan's sexual education and way of portraying sexual content, many people still see the topic as something embarrassing, and something to not talk about. Places like Chinpoukan are here to remind you that sex is nothing to be embarrassed about, but in fact something great, something to be proud of. Sabukaru agrees.
